MISSION – BC NDP MLAs Pam Alexis and Bob D’Eith say that construction will soon be underway on upgrades at the intersection of Highway 7 and Highway 11 Cedar Valley Connector, which will make it easier for people getting around the region.

“Highway 7 and Highway 11 are essential routes for people moving around our region,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission. “Progress on this project means more highway capacity and a safer, easier journey for everyone.”

Upgrades to the intersection will include:

  • Adding a second dedicated northbound turn lane on Highway 11 to add more lane capacity to left turns from Highway 11 to Highway 7 westbound
  • Modifying intersection traffic islands to improve the turning radius for trucks
  • Relocating and installing new road signs to guide drivers into lane assignments
  • Updating roadway drainage to accommodate the new lane configurations
  • Upgrading lighting and traffic signals to support operation changes and the addition of the dual left-turn bay
  • Increasing the lane capacity of the Highway 7 westbound left turn lane

“Our improvements to Highway 7 are already making things easier for people in Mission,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission. “These additional changes at the Cedar Valley Connector intersection will help make things even more seamless for drivers and help keep people safe.”

The $5 million contract for the project has been awarded to B.A. Blacktop Infrastructure Inc. Construction is set to begin this summer, and is expected to be completed this fall.

These new intersection upgrades follow Phase 1 improvements that were completed in the west quadrant of the intersection in 2018.
